Washington, D.C. (7News) — The sights, sounds, flavors, and energy of Thailand are taking over downtown Washington, D.C., Saturday, September 19th. On Friday, Good Morning Washington welcomed His Excellency Dr. Suriya Chindawongse, Ambassador of Thailand to the United States, to preview the 3rd Annual Sawasdee D.C. Thai Festival.
The event will transform four blocks of Pennsylvania Avenue between 3rd and 6th Streets NW into an authentic Thai street market, featuring cultural performances, traditional arts, Muay Thai demonstrations, shopping, and a wide variety of authentic Thai street food. The Ambassador shared what visitors can expect and highlighted the unique opportunity for families to experience Thai culture right in the heart of the nation’s Capital.
The celebration takes place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is free for everyone to attend. Festivalgoers will also have the chance to enter a raffle for roundtrip airfare to Thailand, with lucky draws scheduled throughout the day and prizes including tickets to Bangkok or Chiang Mai.
In addition to the food and cultural attractions, attendees can enjoy performances from acclaimed Thai singer, actor, and musical theater star Gun Napat, who will headline the main stage.
