After 35 years in business, Grandma’s Saloon & Grill is closing its location in Virginia.
The restaurant, located at 1302 South 12th Avenue, recently announced plans to close its doors effective Sept. 27.
“We are profoundly grateful for the relationship we have shared with the Virginia community over the last 35 years,” the restaurant’s management said in a statement.
“While this closure brings an end to a wonderful era on the Iron Range, we want to assure our longtime fans that this is not a final goodbye. There will always be a warm welcome and a table waiting for them at our Canal Park restaurants.”
The window between the announcement and closing is “dedicated to our loyal guests, giving the community a chance to visit one last time, share memories, and say goodbye,” according to the announcement. It is also meant to give employees time to look for other work.
Grandma’s, the same name behind the iconic North Shore annual marathon, will continue to operate its original location in Duluth’s Canal Park, which has been open since 1976.
But it’s the business’s second closure this year, with the restaurant group closing its restaurant in the Miller Hill building, where it had operated since 1992, in May.
Employees at the Virginia location will have the option to relocate to Grandma’s in Duluth or another business under the same ownership, including Little Angie’s Cantina, Bellisio’s Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar, The Garden Wedding & Event Center and the Adventure Zone Family Fun Center 一 also all in Duluth.
