SIMPSONVILLE — Food Lion’s newest store — and its fifth in the Simpsonville area — opened March 25.
The 37,000-square-foot grocery store is situated on West Georgia Road near the intersection with Fork Shoals Road, about 5 miles west of Interstate 385. It’s in a burgeoning suburb where farmland and fields meet strip malls and single-family homes in Greenville County.
Food Lion hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning, and more than 250 customers waited in line for the event. Students from Woodmont High School greeted the crowd.
“Our team is excited to welcome neighbors into a store that’s designed to make shopping easy, fresh and affordable,” said Mike Strange, store manager of the new Food Lion. “We look forward to serving our neighbors with a shopping experience they can trust.”

The store will be open daily from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m.
It’s the newest location in South Carolina for the grocery chain, which is owned by Ahold Delhaize. That company, which previously owned the now-defunct Bi-Lo grocery chain, has said it would replace dozens of Bi-Lo stores when that brand was discontinued.
The new Simpsonville Food Lion offers a broad range of products, including ready-to-eat, ready-to-cook and ready-to-heat meals, fresh produce, quality meats, and various organic, gluten-free and plant-based options.
A walk-in garden cooler will ensure fresh produce, in-store prepared cut fruit, freshly made sushi and a self-service wing and hot favorites bar. The store also provides pickup and home delivery services placed through online ordering.
The grocery store donated $2,500 to Harvest Hope Food Bank, which has a large facility off White Horse Road.
Food Lion will also take over the former Bi-Lo on Rutherford Road and North Pleasantburg Drive in Greenville. It opened a new store outside Columbia earlier this year.
