If you’ve been waiting for a new special occasion restaurant, mark your calendar. Guard and Grace — the Michelin-recommended steakhouse with locations in Denver and Houston — is opening its third spot right here in Charlotte’s South End. And yes, the views are as good as you’re hoping. 🌆
The restaurant is landing on the 10th floor of Vivian at Queensbridge Collective, which means uptown skyline sight lines from the patio. Chef Troy Guard is behind the concept, and he’s promising playful food with international flair alongside the prime cuts you’d expect from a steakhouse of this caliber.
CharlotteFive’s Heidi Finley got an early look this spring, and the menu previews alone are enough to start planning a date night. A few things catching our eye:

More globally inspired tacos, please. 🙌 NC-based White Duck Taco Shop is bringing a second Charlotte location to Lenny Boy Brewing — which honestly feels like a perfect fit for the city’s after-work gatherings. For that in-between hour when you need real food but don’t want to sit through a whole dinner, this is that spot.
If you haven’t been, White Duck’s whole thing is tacos with an international POV — think Korean beef bulgogi, chicken tikka masala and other combinations that make the “just tacos again?” text in the group chat feel a lot more exciting.
The chain currently has five North Carolina restaurants, with additional locations in South Carolina and Tennessee.

CharlotteFive’s Evan Moore stopped this week at Niki’s Food Shop, a soul food spot on Beatties Ford Road with a big menu. Yet he found nearly everyone in line is ordering the same thing: Niki’s Salad.
It seemed weird. Then he tried it.
The salad comes in a styrofoam takeout container piled with chopped seasoned chicken, bacon bits, tomato and a peeled hard-boiled egg over lettuce. Sometimes a menu tells you what it’s known for; sometimes the line tells you. This is a line-tells-you situation.
