(WHTM) — September marks Hunger Action Month, a “nationwide movement dedicated to raising awareness of hunger and inspiring communities to take action to ensure everyone has access to nutritious food.”

In honor of the month, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank announced that it would be holding a weeklong series of events to “shine a light on food insecurity and the work being done to address it.”

During each of the first five days of September, the food bank will host “proclamations” at various sites, the first coming Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. at the Centre County Government Building in Bellefonte. The York County Administrative Building in York will be the next location from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday.

Thursday will see two proclamations, the first at the Lebanon County Municipal Building in Lebanon from 9:45-10:15 a.m., and the second at the Columbia County District Court in Bloomsburg from 10-11 a.m.

Three First Friday events will also be held in downtown Lancaster, Williamsport and York, respectively. The final event will be at the Williamsport Growers Market on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

There will be additional community events, county proclamations, outreach activities and advocacy efforts scheduled throughout the rest of September as well.

The Central PA Food Bank notes that one in eight people in its 27-county service area face food insecurity, including one in five children, with over 278,000 people receiving monthly help through its food relief network.
