A new Virginia Beach sushi spot will be serving fresh food from conveyor belt to table.
Kura Sushi, the nation’s largest revolving sushi bar chain, is planning to bring a 3,500-square-foot restaurant to 4554 Virginia Beach Blvd., the primary entrance to the former Pembroke Mall, in early 2027. Currently, the shopping center is going through a $200 million renovation as Pembroke Square.
The Japanese sushi chain was established in 1977 and has more than 600 restaurants internationally, including more than 90 in 24 U.S. states and Washington, D.C.
“Our development strategy is to identify markets that demographically match well with our most successful markets in the country,” Robert Kluger, chief development officer at Kura Sushi USA, said by email. “Virginia Beach came in very high in our analysis. The market has a rapidly evolving and vibrant culinary landscape that aligns well with our core customer.”
Kura Revolving Sushi Bar combines authentic Japanese cuisine with interactive dining, said Lauren Murakami, the company’s communications director. More than 100 dishes are served on a two-layered conveyor belt system, enhanced by drink delivery robots and prizes.
“Our sushi plates glide around the revolving sushi bar covered by patented lids that reduce airborne exposure and have tracking technology,” Kluger said. “Our diverse menu includes sushi, noodles, side dishes and desserts, and guests can easily make their selections from an ordering touch panel, with their choices arriving on an overhead express belt.”
Kluger said the Bikkura Pon prize platform adds an element of surprise to every visit. Customers can win a prize that’s dispensed from a prize machine based on the number of sushi plates ordered.

The restaurant also prepares food using fresh ingredients free of artificial sweeteners, seasonings, preservatives and colorings, Murakami said.
“We serve to create joyful moments through authentic Japanese cuisine made with high-quality ingredients delivered on a two-layered conveyor-belt system,” Kluger said. “We are excited to serve this bustling community and be their go-to sushi dining destination.”
