After 55 years, O’Charley’s Restaurant + Bar has suddenly shut down all corporate locations, closing every remaining restaurant, including its Summerville location, as of Sept. 9.

The Nashville-based chain, known for its casual dining, operated 47 O’Charley’s restaurants and a spin-off concept called Underground Chuck.

The chain’s last South Carolina location, the O’Charley’s at 315 Azalea Square Blvd., has closed along with the Underground Chuck’s location in Charleston.

As of Sept. 10, O’Charley’s has deactivated its social media accounts and did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Its website also is down, returning a “site not found” error.

O’Charley’s opened in 1971 and at its peak ran nearly 250 restaurants. The chain has been shedding locations since 2016.

In related news, Ferguson Family Mattress, located at 464 Azalea Square Blvd., Unit C, will permanently close later this month. Beginning Sept. 17, prices will be discounted by as much as 50 percent. The sale will be facilitated and managed by Retail Sales PRO and will include merchandise, fixtures and store supplies from the showroom.

Owner Blake Ferguson said the decision comes after changes in the mattress industry.

“When I got started in this business, it was me following in my father’s footsteps. And over the years, I’ve loved being able to help people, family and friends get a good night’s sleep,” he said. “Shifts in the industry told me it was just time to move on and start the next chapter of my life.”
