These establishments in Monroe County were inspected between Aug. 31 and Sept. 13, according to Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture records.

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture provides this disclosure: “Please remember that any inspection is a ‘snapshot’ of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection, violations are recorded but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment.”

Out of compliance

Philly Pretzel Factory: 1619 N. 9th St., Stroudsburg

Inspected Sept. 3. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 2

Inspector observed the handwash and warewash sinks in the kitchen area did not have water at a temperature of at least 85 degrees; and facility was unable to produce any hot water and (voluntarily closed).

The location was in compliance with one violation at a follow-up inspection on Sept. 4. Inspector observed a buildup of dust on the ceiling and back of condenser unit in the walk-in refrigerator.

Brookside Inn: 593 Main St., Tobyhanna

Inspected Sept. 9. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 3

Inspector observed various foods held at 50 degrees, rather than 41 or below as required (voluntarily disposed of); drains at slop, handwash and three-compartment sinks were not properly draining, and water leaking at the drainpipes under the handwash and warewash sinks; and two fans in the kitchen area had a buildup of grease and dust

West End Diner: 1558 Route 209, Brodheadsville

Inspected Sept. 10. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 4

Inspector observed walls in the kitchen area had an accumulation of dust and old food residue; thermometer for ensuring proper temperature of equipment was not available or readily accessible in cold hold units; a black mold-like substance on the interior surfaces of the ice machine; and an insect control device in kitchen area with potential to contaminate food, equipment and/or utensils (corrected)

Bovino’s Brewery: 610 Main St., Stroudsburg

Inspected Sept. 11. Jurisdiction: Stroudsburg Borough. Violations: 9

Inspector determined the person in charge did not have adequate knowledge of food safety.

Inspector observed raw hamburger meat in bain marie appeared discolored/spoiled (voluntarily disposed of) and cooked chicken being held at 45 degrees in discolored water (voluntarily disposed of); deeply scored and stained cutting board on bain marie in kitchen; food was held at 45 degrees in the makeshift walk-in cooler, rather than 41 or below as required (person in charge was to monitor temperature and move foods if temperature did not return to 41 or below); and clean pans and utensils stored on top of grease trap next to three-compartment sink and top of grease trap was dirty, greasy and exposed to splash form three-compartment sink.

Inspector observed loose/damaged rubber door gaskets observed on a bain marie; paint on ceiling of makeshift walk-in cooler was badly peeling, with numerous paint chips on floor; no reminder at the handwash sink in the women’s restroom for food employees to wash their hands and the handwash sink in the kitchen did not have single-use towels, continuous towels, or an air-drying device; and non-functioning equipment needed to be removed or repaired to reduce clutter and facilitate cleaning.

Pocono Brewery Company: 2092 Route 611, Swiftwater

Inspected Aug. 31. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 2

Inspector observed a black mold-like substance on the interior surfaces of the ice machine (emptied, cleaned and sanitized); and dripping water from a ceiling seam in the produce walk-in cooler, exposing foods to possible contamination.

Wendy’s: 4500 Milford Road, East Stroudsburg

Inspected Sept. 2. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 1

Inspector observed an ice buildup on the underside of walk-in freezer condenser unit, making products stored underneath subject to ice contamination (a sheet try was placed to catch falling ice until unit is repaired).

Hong Kong I: 5224 Milford Road, Suite 162, East Stroudsburg

Inspected Sept. 2. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 5

Inspector observed back rim of bain marie under rotating hood had a buildup of old food and old food residue; an employee’s open beverage container in cook line; insect control devices, a hanging fly strip and electrocuting device, in kitchen area with potential to contaminate food, equipment, and/or utensils; food dispensing utensil in bulk ingredients food stored in the food and not with handle above the top of the food and the container; and paper towel dispenser was empty at the handwash sink in the kitchen area.

Banquet staging (Camelback): 193 Resort Drive, Tannersville

Inspected Sept. 2. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 1

Inspector observed single-service, single-use articles stored in basement storage area directly on the floor, not 6 inches above the floor.

Yusan Boba & Kitchen: 366 N. Courtland St., East Stroudsburg

Opening inspection Sept. 3. Jurisdiction: East Stroudsburg Borough. Violations: 2

Inspector observed the handwash sink in the restroom did not have single-use towels, continuous towels, or an air-drying device; and toilet room did not have a self-closing door.

The Lakeside: 5154 Hamilton South, Saylorsburg

Inspected Sept. 3. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 1

Inspector observed the ceiling in the dry storage area was cracked/roughened and was not a smooth, easily cleanable surface.

Price Chopper: 4547 Milford Road, East Stroudsburg

Inspected Sept. 8. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 1

Inspector observed dripping water and ice buildup on the condenser units in the deli, meat and bakery walk-in coolers, making food products susceptible to contamination (products were removed from areas of concern).

Rocking Crab: 344 Stroud Mall Road, Unit 402, Stroudsburg

Inspected Sept. 9. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 2

Inspector observed various fish products and imitation crab thawing at room temperature, which is not an approved thawing method (all items were placed back into refrigeration); and raw scallops and shrimp stored above ready-to-eat foods in the walk-in cooler.

Follow-up inspection after being in compliance with two violations on Aug. 27.

The Stroudsmoor by Wedgewood Weddings – Ridgecrest: 257 Stroudsmoor Road, Stroudsburg

Inspected Sept. 10. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 3

Inspector observed three soda gun holders had a buildup of old food residue and syrup, making them sticky, and runoff from the soda guns was pooling in the holders and not draining properly, an attractant to small ants which were present on the holders; one set of lights was not shielded or shatterproof over the warewash area; and paper towel dispenser was empty at the handwash sink in the kitchen area.

NiBor’s Coffee: 1479 Route 209, Brodheadsville

Inspected Sept. 10. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 4

Inspector observed an accumulation of clutter throughout the facility, with visible buildup of dust and dirt on stored items; evidence of insect activity in warewashing/food prep areas; interior surfaces of the cold hold unit were not clean and floors throughout the facility had an accumulation of dirt and dust; and personal medicines stored in facility refrigerators were not kept in separate, labeled and covered containers (corrected).

Johnny Rockets: 1000 Premium Outlets Drive, Suite B16, Tannersville

Inspector observed reach-in cooler with bain marie at cookline at an ambient temperature of 48 degrees, not 41 or below as required (cooler coils cleaned); thermometers for ensuring proper temperature of equipment were broken or not available/readily accessible in multiple reach-in coolers; reach-in cooler with bain marie at cookline at an ambient temperature of 48 degrees, not 41 or below as required (coils cleaned); a brown residue on the separator plate in the ice machine (separator plate cleaned and sanitized) and hair in the bottom of metal ice caddy (cleaned and sanitized); metal ice scooper cracking/chipping and missing metal pieces (removed and discarded); and an accumulation of dust and dirt on overhead wires/cords at cookline above food preparation areas.

Inspector observed evidence of rodents/insect activity; a black mold-like substance on the interior shelving of the reach-in/self-serve cooler; and drinking water was not from an approved source, such as a public water system or an approved non-public water system.
