A new Sprouts grocery store is coming to Prince George’s County, addressing long-standing development promises, says County Executive Braveboy.
PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — A major business development announcement out of Prince George’s County.
For years – we’ve covered talks about the Westphalia Towne Center project. County leadership announced Thursday it has secured a new anchor grocery store for the area – Sprouts. The 23,000-square-foot grocery retailer specializes in organic food.

Some neighbors who live near the project on Route 4 say the announcement brings varied emotions.
“I don’t mind the Sprouts – it’s just taking a minute,” said Alexus Wilson, homeowner.
Wilson has lived in the area for seven years and says residents have been promised development for years.
“It’ll be nice to have a grocery store in here, but it’s just when is it going to happen?” Wilson asked.
County Executive Aisha Braveboy says the community’s frustrations are valid – which is why she’s excited that business development progress is being made.
“Development is just amazing because that community – for decades – has been waiting for what’s been promised, town center, retail restaurants,” said Braveboy, “And now, we have an anchor, and we are full steam ahead.”
Sprouts has multiple locations across Virginia and Maryland, but this would be its first in Prince George’s County.
Braveboy says the retailer was also a good fit because of how it works to support the local community.
“Our local farmers provide local produce at the local grocery store, and that’s something we think is special,” said Braveboy, “We have a thriving farming community in Prince George’s County.”
The county says it’ll be about a year or so before the grocery store opens.
