Mom’s Pan Fried Bun and Jamshid Bakery in Newmarket, and Safety Zone (Anji Izakaya) in Markham were ticketed last week by York Region Public Health inspectors

A bakery in Newmarket, and restaurants in Newmarket and Markham have been charged with food safety violations following inspections by York Region Public Health last week.

Mom’s Pan Fried Bun at 10 – 869 Mulock Dr. in Newmarket was charged Aug. 19 with storing potentially hazardous foods at an internal temperature between 4°C and 60°C.

The compliance inspection report notes non-compliance on multiple items, including: failure to cold holding potentially hazardous food at an internal temperature of 4°C (40°F) and lower; fail to store and maintain potentially hazardous food at an internal temperature 4°C (40°F) and lower; failing to ensure handwashing stations are adequately equipped and accessible; failing to ensure at least one certified food handler or supervisor on site during all hours of operation.

According to the report, food handler education was carried out on site, an acceptable temporary measure was put in place, and a ticket was served.

Jamshid Bakery at A – 97 Davis Dr. in Newmarket was charged on Aug. 21 with failing to ensure the presence of a food handler or supervisor during all hours of operation.

The compliance inspection report notes non-compliance with failure to ensure at least one certified food handler or supervisor on site during all hours of operation.

Corrected during inspection was failing to ensure handwashing stations were adequately equipped and accessible.

Food handler education was carried out on site, a proof of public health sign was posted and a ticket was served.

Safety Zone (Anji Izakaya) at 7059 Yonge St., in Thornhill, Markham was charged on Aug. 17 with failure to protect food from contamination or adulteration and failure to ensure food handlers in food premise washes hands as necessary to prevent contamination of food.

Corrected during inspection were ensuring a food handler demonstrates proper food hygiene practices to prevent contamination; ensuring mechanical and manual dishwashing is at proper wash, rinse, sanitize and water temperature; fail to sanitize utensils using a chemical solution at the minimum concentration and fail to sanitize utensils in chlorine solution of 100 ppm of available chlorine or more.

Food handler education was carried out on site, and a proof of public health sign was posted and a ticket was served.
