An upcoming arrival to the local hospitality scene is helping usher in a bright, new, and delicious chapter for Brandywine diners. Helmed by Prince George’s County’s own Toshia Ellis and husband Marcus Ellis, Salad House Brandywine will be opening its doors in the neighborhood this fall, bringing fresh and healthier options to hungry residents.
Construction is well underway on Salad House’s new 15805 SW Robert Crain Highway home. Franchisee Toshia Ellis very kindly spoke with What Now DC about bringing the concept to a community she values deeply, saying: “Choosing Brandywine and Prince George’s County was very intentional for us. Prince George’s County is home for us. My husband and I have deep roots here—we’ve lived, learned, worshipped, served, and built our lives in Prince George’s County.”
She explains that Salad House will be a fresh opportunity to nourish the neighborhood, saying: “Having lived here most of my life, I’ve always believed our community deserves more fresh, healthier food options without having to leave the county. That’s what drew us to Salad House—the variety, the quality, and a menu that offers something for everyone, from salads, grain bowls to wraps, and plenty of protein options. Brandywine is growing, and we saw an opportunity to bring something different to a community that deserves more diverse dining choices.”
Salad House will help fill a void in the Prince George’s County dining scene in a way that is certain to appeal to a large portion of the population, whether they’re actively trying to eat healthier or just looking for a delicious, quick meal. Ellis states: “I chose Salad House because it offers what I felt our community was missing—fresh, healthier food that’s flavorful, filling, and has something for just about everyone. I loved the depth of the menu, with proteins like grilled chicken, steak, salmon, shrimp, ahi tuna and tofu. In addition, they have heartier sides to accompany that salad that I may desire at times such as French fries, crispy brussel sprouts, delicious crispy cauliflower bites. This surpasses your typical fast-casual options.”
The menu, Ellis explains, has something for diners of all ages: “Even the kids’ menu mattered to me—my granddaughter is a very picky eater, and the fact that she can still find something she loves, like chicken tenders and fries, showed me that Salad House could truly serve the whole family. That variety, combined with the brand’s “Food That Fuels” philosophy, made it a great fit for what we wanted to bring to our community.”
Ellis’s plans for Salad House transcends dining, however. “Our vision goes beyond the food.” she says. “We want Salad House Brandywine to truly become part of the community and be a responsible community partner. This is our home, so it’s important to us to support local schools, organizations and community initiatives and build relationships that extend beyond our restaurant doors. Ultimately, we want to be a place our neighbors are proud to have in Brandywine—providing ‘Food That Fuels’ while also giving back to the community that supports us.”
Salad House Brandywine will span 1,650 square feet and have seating for up to 25 visitors. Guests won’t have to wait much longer to check out the restaurant’s fare; Ellis anticipates being customer-ready by late October or early November.
With Ellis and her team guiding the way, Salad House is bound to become a staple of the neighborhood. Ellis sums up her hopes for the concept, saying: “For us, this is more than opening a restaurant. It’s about investing in the community that invested in us—and hopefully, Salad House Brandywine is the first of more to come in Prince George’s County. Food that Fuels, right here at home.”
