Last year, my son discovered the art of homemade pasta, and we’ve been spoiled ever since. He’s become a fresh-pasta-making fiend, and there’s nothing quite like sitting down to a meal made with noodles he rolled out himself.
But there are also days when life is moving far too fast to clean flour out of the mountains and valleys of our popcorn ceiling. On those nights, frozen pasta feels like the answer: heat it up, eat, and get back out the door.
If this is also your life, you might want to take a quick look in your freezers. A frozen Bettergoods pasta product sold at Walmart stores nationwide, including here in Montana, has been recalled because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
Which Pasta Is Being Recalled at Walmart?
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Gias Foods of New York is recalling two lots of Bettergoods Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine.
The product was distributed nationwide through Walmart stores, meaning it could easily be sitting in freezers across Montana.
Look for the following details on the back of the package:

If you have one of the recalled packages, don’t eat it. The FDA says you should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
No illnesses had been reported when the FDA announced the recall. The issue was initially detected during routine sampling by state agriculture departments in Washington and Florida.
Why Listeria Is a Concern
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, older adults, pregnant people, and people with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
So yes, there will still be plenty of nights when the frozen-food shortcut wins at our house and at yours. Just double-check your freezer to make sure this particular lemon Alfredo fettuccine is not on the menu.
