YAKIMA, Wash. — The 133rd annual Central Washington State Fair in Yakima held their media day previewing the food on display just hours before gates open.
One vendor highlighted a savory option before the tasting began.
“Who doesn’t love bacon and chicken together? If we do it in a honey soy garlic marinade and then we fry it to perfection,” said Zane Bradbury, owner of Sweet Treats and Fried Cheeks.
NonStopLocal’s Steven Hogencamp then tried a bacon-wrapped chicken leg and gave his review.
“Oh, my gosh. I took a meaty bite, and this chicken is so tender. I love crispy bacon. And this is extremely crispy. I’m going. I’m going in 8.8/10. I really like that,” he said.
President & CEO of the Central Washington Fair Association Kathy Kramer says vendors are always pushing for unusual new items that stand out each year.
“Crazy, wonky, fair food how do you make it neat and different and interesting? We’re always trying to do the newest, craziest things,” she said.
Another stop featured a deep-fried Pop-Tart covered with strawberry sauce and sprinkles.
“This is a first-time experience. Without a doubt it’s filling a childhood dream. This is mind-blowing,” NonStopLocal Reporter Josiah Kau described it.
Scott Dennis, owner of three different vending options, says the fair keeps drawing people back because of the setting and the crowd.
“We love. We love the people. We love the feel of it all the grass that’s like the it’s just a beautiful fairground, all the buildings and everything. And dealing with all the customers. It’s it’s always great here,” he said.
