GREENVILLE — An international grocery chain plans to open a store in Greenville, its first location outside of North Carolina.
Super G Mart, a family-owned company founded in 2008, sells products from around the world, including Asian, Hispanic, European, Caribbean and Indian items. They hope to open in the former Gabe’s on Haywood Road around Thanksgiving, said Peter Han, owner of the Greenville location.
“We wanted to be strategically located in a city that’s positioned for growth, and I also know that we can grow along with the city,” Han said.
Han said they were drawn to the Greenville-Spartanburg region’s international communities, brought to the area by international businesses such as Michelin, BMW and companies from Japan.
They have considered locations in Columbia and Charleston, and they’re looking westward toward Tennessee, Han said.
“We always have plans to expand,” Han said.
The 51,653-square-foot store will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, with shortened hours on some holidays, Han said. An interior food court in the store will have three stalls and a bakery from Atlanta.
Han said they’ve repainted the parking lot and completed landscaping, and interior work is underway. The company plans to hire 65-75 employees.
