YAKIMA, Wash. – The Central Washington State Fair kicks off September 25 in Yakima, bringing rides, food and fun.
The CWSF is one of the largest in the state, and this year, some new additions are the stars of the show.
Ikonic Glass blowing, led by Conrad Waller, allows willing participants to work on their very own glass jewelry for the low-low price of free (given that you’ve already bought your $5 CWSF admission ticket).
Another new face is Brian Bradbury, owner and co-operator of multiple food stands: Sweet Cheeks, Scrappy’s Chicken and Helen’s Greek. Bradbury’s son, who graduated from culinary college, helps with recipe development, giving these stands a slightly elevated feel compared to your usual fair-fare.
For WUNSL, Bradbury showed off samples of their soy-glaze marinated, bacon-wrapped and deep-fried chicken legs, alongside chicken tenders with peanut butter and jelly served in a waffle cone.
Kathy Kramer, CEO and President of the Yakima Valley SunDome, joined WUNSL, highlighting the Ace’s Wild Rough Stock Round-Up and the brand-new Farmer’s Garden, which is scheduled to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony, led by Food Network star Sandra Lee.
David Masengale, Livestock Superintendent for CWSF, joined WUNSL too, talking about the importance of fairs in rearing the next generation of agricultural workers across the U.S.
Fair gates open at noon and close at 11 pm Friday and Saturday, with an earlier end to the day at 10 pm on Sunday. During the week, gates open at 2 pm and close at 10 pm.
The Carnival Midway opens at noon Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, the carnival opens at 2 pm, and at 3 pm Tuesday through Thursday.
Several more events are scheduled for the fair, and this year’s theme, “Honoring Our Past, Growing Our Future,” celebrates America’s 250th anniversary as well as its agricultural roots and traditions around the Yakima Valley.
