For those who crave a bento box on the go, Sakura Japan, a fast casual Japanese eatery, recently opened at its new location in the New London Shopping Center, according to city health officials.
While the restaurant does not have a website or social media, it is active on food delivery-ordering apps, Door Dash and Uber Eats and lists its hours as 10:30 a.m. – 9 p.m. at their new location at 256 South Frontage Road and shows over 200 ratings and more than 20 reviews.
Sakura Japan, which specializes in teriyaki dishes, bento boxes and sushi rolls, left its spot in the shuttered Crystal Mall in Waterford this summer, according to media reports. Only three tenants remained after the mall was closed March 31 as part of the mall’s conversion to a satellite campus for General Dynamics Electric Boat, CT Insider previously reported.
Electric Boat is converting the shopping mall into a satellite corporation campus. Construction is still ongoing and Electric Boat held a ceremonial ground breaking Aug. 21, CT Insider previously reported.
At Sakura, featured dishes include spicy tuna roll, chicken teriyaki, shrimp tempura and chicken and beef bento boxes served with rice, mixed vegetables, crispy dumplings and California rolls, according to the food delivery sites. The restaurant offers a dozen sushi roll varieties including fusion rolls with tempura flakes. They also offer vegetarian options such as Vegetable D’Lite, mixed vegetables served over rice and vegetable noodles.
