Potato chips sold at Save A Lot in Kentucky recalled over food allergy

If you shop at Save A Lot, check your pantry before taking a bite of these potato chips.

An Indiana food manufacturer recalled certain bags of J. HIGGS Loaded Bacon & Cheddar flavored potato chips sold in five states, including Kentucky, because they might contain soy.

The undeclared allergen, reports the Food & Drug Administration, can pose a serious or even life-threatening risk to those with soy allergies.

Saratoga Potato Chips, based in Fort Wayne, issued the recall initially last September after discovering the labeling issue. The recall is ongoing, according to the FDA.

What to look for on the bag

The FDA urges those with soy allergies to check the packaging for the following labels:

Brand: J. HIGGS potato chips

Flavor: Loaded Bacon and Cheddar

Size: 7.75-ounce packages

Marked (top right corner of the bag):

Best if USED BY DEC 11 26, and;

Best if USED BY DEC 18 26.

Where were the chips sold?

According to the FDA, J. HIGGS potato chips containing soy were sold at Save A Lot stores in these states:

The FDA stated no illnesses or injuries have been reported.

How to get a refund

If you purchased any bags of J. HIGGS Loaded Bacon and Cheddar Potato Chips recalled by the company, you can return them to Save A Lot for a full refund, according to the FDA.
