BEAUMONT, Miss. (WDAM) – The community in Beaumont is continuing to enjoy the 38th Annual Mississippi Pecan Festival.
This is a three-day weekend event, and Saturday’s activities included a talent show, a mule pull and the prettiest rooster contest.
The festival also featured food vendors and fun attractions like a dunking booth, axe throwing and a petting zoo.
Visitors from all over highlight some of their favorite parts of the day.
“Looking around at the guns, seeing how many people would come, and seeing what they have,” attendee Noah Lemus said. “It’s just a lot.”
“The bull ride,” attendee Alexander Grissett said. “I have the longest time on there right now. I’m the champ, 1 minute and 30 seconds.”
Sheila Wood is a retired nurse and Air Force veteran, and she came all the way from Gulfport to attend this event.
She didn’t know what to expect but, after Saturday, she plans to come back every year.
“Our friend Karen saw this online, and she said we’re going to the pecan festival,” Wood said. “We all took off today, and we just had a good road trip.”
Marie Fulmer said the festival started with the vision of Ken and Jeanette Fulmer and their three sons, and she is happy to keep that vision alive for the public.
“The most important and fun thing for me is just to know and see people are coming out and making memories with their families year after year,” Marie said. “It’s a tradition for a lot of families, it’s a great way to kick off fall, and a great time to spend with your family out having a good time.”
Gates open at 9 a.m. on Sunday, and the festival will officially begin with a pet contest at 11:30 a.m.
