Blessing of the Animals at Upland Baptist Church: 325 Main Street, Upland. On Sunday, September 27, at noon, we will be holding a Blessing of the Animals service. You are encouraged to bring your furry friends. All animals are welcome to join us for the service, though we ask for carriers or leashes to be used.

Slavic Food Festival and Community Flea Market/Craft Fair: on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Holy Myrrh-Bearers Church, 900 Fairview Road, Ridley Township, in the Swarthmore ZIP code. There will be outdoor vendors, and inside the parish hall Slavic foods and baked goods will be available. Enjoy pierogies, kielbasa, stuffed cabbage and many more Eastern-European foods and baked goods. For vendors, spaces will be 10-by-16 feet and you may set up your tables beginning at 7:30 to 8 a.m. that day. Vehicles may be parked next door at Notre Dame’s parking lot. Grief support for bereaved parents: At Chambers Memorial Presbyterian Church, 2 E. Sylvan Ave., Rutledge. The meeting is 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 1 for anyone who has lost a child. Group meetings will continue every third Wednesday of each month (10/ 21, 11/ 18, 12/ 16, 1/ 20, 2/ 17, 3/ 17, 4/ 21, 5/ 19 and 6/ 1). Perhaps the most devastating loss is the death of a child. This overwhelming loss affects grieving parents physically, emotionally and spiritually. Monthly meetings take place in a comfortable atmosphere where no one is required to speak, but all may share feelings openly and honestly without fear of judgement or criticism. Sale dates are Sept. 30; Oct. 14 and 28; Nov. 4 and 18; Dec. 2 and 16. Pickup times are Wednesday and Saturday of the sale week from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For orders over five dozen, you must pre-order. Large holiday orders must be placed at least two weeks before the sale date to guarantee availability. Also available most times are smoked Kielbasi rings, Holubki (stuffed cabbage), Halushki (buttered noodles with/without kielbasa), assorted nut rolls and various home-made soups available. Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous: meets 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays at St. Kevin’s Parish, 200 W. Sproul Road, Springfield. FA is a recovery program for people who suffer from food obsession, overeating, bulimia and under-eating. The program is based on the Twelve Steps of AA. Everyone is welcome to the free meeting, including those who think they may have a food problem or those who are concerned about someone who may. Mary Mother of Captives: is a support group for those coping with a loved one in prison. Food pantry: at Bread of Life Assembly of God Church, 110 S. State Road, is opening a food pantry every second Saturday of the month to provide ongoing support to those in need. The pantry will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Recognizing the challenges many local residents face in accessing nutritious food, Bread of Life is committed to making a meaningful impact by offering free grocery essentials to the community. The Food Pantry is open to anyone in need, with no registration required. Community members, volunteers, and local partners are encouraged to participate, donate, and help spread the word. First United Methodist Church of Media: also known as First Church Media, 350 W. State St., Media, distributes food Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. The church’s Clothing Closet mainly takes private appointments, which can be scheduled by calling the church office at 610-566-3172.
