Oklahoma City residents are preparing for an anticipated winter storm by stocking up on groceries, while some plan to continue working despite the weather.

Oklahoma City residents are stocking up on groceries in preparation for an anticipated winter storm this weekend, with many ensuring they have all the essentials before the weather hits.

“I’m getting it out of the way. Just picking up the little spare things that I didn’t have,” Valerie Humphrey, an OKC resident, said.

Despite the forecast, some residents, like Humphrey, who is a home health nurse, will continue to work through the storm. She was one of the many residents shopping for groceries at Homeland on Northeast 36th Street.

“Given that I’m a home-health nurse, I can’t worry. I still have to go in. We’re just going to see what it brings us,” she said.

The Rev. Gerald Patterson, pastor of First AME Church in OKC, shared how he is preparing for the winter storm.

“I ran and got some milk, eggs and bread, so I’m good,” Patterson said.

He said that his church, which has a primarily elderly congregation, has planned events for Sunday.

“We have some afternoon programs planned for this Sunday, and they’re usually afternoon programs,” he said.

However, Patterson acknowledged that plans might change due to the weather.

“Most of the time, we’ll just go online and have services because the roads are too dangerous, and so we’ll be playing it by ear,” he said.

The National Weather Service in Norman has indicated that the heaviest precipitation is expected from Friday night into Saturday afternoon.
