LAFAYETTE, La. (KPLC) – A restaurant brought a little humor to Lafayette with a promo aimed at creating the city’s largest gathering of bald people.

Empanada Guy Lafayette took to Facebook, inviting “all bald legends of Acadiana” to stop by Friday (June 5) and celebrate “confidence, aerodynamics, and low shampoo expenses,” as part of a promotional “bald reunion.”

From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., several bald and “bald-ish” customers stopped by the restaurant and were treated with a free extra empanada and a free drink with their purchases.

KATC-TV spoke with two attendees, Tahir Taylor of Opelousas and his mother, Lashondra. Both shaved their heads after Lashondra was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer.

“We came out today just to support the Empanada Guy. Free empanadas if you’re bald. There’s actually a story behind us being bald. My mother was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer, and we are just here in honor of her,” Tahir Taylor said.

Lashondra Taylor said the gesture meant everything to her.

“I didn’t expect for him to go bald. He actually cut my hair and then surprised me when he went bald himself, so it was a big honor,” she said.

The event celebrated confidence, community, and the message: “No hair, no problem.”
