Iowa State Fair visitors skip long food lines with EatFuti delivery and QR codes
DES MOINES, Iowa —
When visitors at the Iowa State Fair get hungry, they can now skip long food lines by ordering from EatFuti, a delivery service marked by yellow-topped tents across the fairgrounds.
“This is awesome,” fairgoer Melissa Gentner said. “We stood in line for over 20 minutes, and we saw this. My husband was like, ‘We are going to order.’ Within five minutes, we got our food.”
Gentner and her husband discovered the service Friday morning.
She said she was pleased to have a convenient alternative to waiting in line.
EatFuti, which has been delivering food in the metro for a few years, began offering fairgrounds delivery this year after working with Iowa State Fair officials.
“It started with just talking to the State Fair, literally,” said Angel Alavarado, an EatFuti account manager.
He said QR codes posted throughout the fairgrounds connect customers with participating food vendors.
Customers scan a code, browse vendors and select and pay for their food.
The service costs more than ordering directly from a vendor, but customers pay for the convenience of avoiding the line.
Once an order is ready, an EatFuti runner wearing a yellow backpack picks it up.
The runner delivers the order to one of five EatFuti locations across the fairgrounds. Customers then show their QR code at the yellow-topped tent, collect their food and enjoy their meal without spending any time in line.
