There are daily specials that typically include a soup, an entree and a tea of the day, like peach, strawberry, raspberry or orange. You can find the daily specials posted on their Facebook page.
I decided to visit when I learned the daily special was chicken spaghetti with soup or salad and bread, cream of chicken soup and blackberry tea.
At Fairfield, you seat yourself and a server will take your order and provide table service. Although patio seating is always my first choice, that day it was my only choice – all the indoor seating was full.
A staff member quickly cleaned an outdoor table for me, and my server was sweet and attentive throughout my meal.
The chicken spaghetti was warm and creamy and cheesy, and I also loved the spring salad with mixed greens, purple onion, sun-dried tomatoes, goat cheese, toasted walnuts and flatbread crackers.

I was able to select the salad from five on the menu. The others are garden, Caesar, spinach and sister.
If you can name a soup, it probably appears as the soup of the day at some point. A partial list of some recent choices include tortilla soup, squash bisque, savory pork and cabbage, red beans and rice, sundried tomato and crab bisque, tomato basil, potato and cream of chicken.

If I hadn’t ordered the daily special, I would have most likely ordered the “chicken thing” from the specialty salad plates. The name made me laugh but the description was enticing: sliced chicken breast with melted cheese, topped with iceberg lettuce, tomato, avocado, purple onion, black olives and sliced jalapenos.
You can order fried onion rings, green beans, mushrooms and bell pepper rings off the appetizer menu.

Some of the specialty salad plates are chicken salad, crabmeat salad, southwest chicken salad and marinated shrimp salad.
Fairfield also has burgers, grilled chicken, Cuban and reuben sandwiches and more. Po-boys on the menu are brisket, muffaletta, meatball and smoked ham or turkey.
They have a happy hour all day on “Wet Wednesday” for well drinks, wine, and draft beer. There’s live piano music from 5 to 7 p.m. You may not know it, but there’s a small bar tucked away in the back.

In the grocery area, you can pick up some jelly or preserves or pickles or chicken salad to take home. On my way out, I noticed the delicious-looking baked goods for purchase: blueberry pound cake, carrot cake, chocolate chip cookies and brownies.
Fairfield Market and Cafe is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and is located at 6955 Fern Loop, Shreveport.
