MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Alabama’s fiercest collegiate rivalry is once again turning into a statewide force for good.

Governor Kay Ivey will be join college students leaders and mascots from Auburn University’s Beat Bama Food Drive and The University of Alabama’s Beat Hunger food drive, to kick off the competition.

During the event, Gov. Ivey will officially proclaim Wednesday, Sept. 30, as “Beat Bama Food Drive and Beat Auburn Beat Hunger Day” across Alabama and will make the first official donation to both schools.

Founded in 1994 through a partnership between the Center for Service and Leadership (CSL) and the West Alabama Bank, the friendly seven-week competition runs throughout the buildup to the Iron Bowl.

Each year, students, faculty, staff, alumni, and local communities rally behind their respective teams to collect donations and combat food insecurity across the state.

The official kickoff will take place Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 10:30 a.m. inside the foyer of the Governors mansion. Both campaigns will collect food and monetary contributions over the next seven weeks leading up the Iron Bowl matchup in the late November.
