A Northland discount grocery store that was open for over a decade appears to now be closed.
A sign on the doors of Save a Lot at 2751 Burlington St. in North Kansas City indicates its closure. Its doors were locked midday Wednesday while employees remained inside.
An employee at the location told The Star it closed permanently Tuesday, though its address remains on Save a Lot’s website.
Managers of the store and Save a Lot corporate did not respond to The Star’s requests for comment.
The spot was owned and operated by franchise group Value Grocers, LLC, as of a few years ago, according to previous reporting by The Star. Value Grocers announced in 2023 that it would close Save a Lot locations at 3500 Blue Ridge Cutoff near Independence, whose last day in operation was June 20, and 6599 N. Oak Trafficway in Gladstone.
“Theft has gone way up the past couple of years at our stores,” Value Grocers’ vice president Syed Haider said at the time. “People steal meat, they steal canned goods. They take it, put it in their pocket, and walk out. And we’ve had trouble getting the police to respond.”
Value Grocers did not respond to The Star’s requests for comment Wednesday about its most recent closure.
In June, Save a Lot closed a location at 3410 Troost Ave.
World Fresh Market, meanwhile, has just opened at 4357 N. Chouteau Trafficway. A new grocery development, called Fresh Market of Northtown, will be built near Diamond Parkway in the One North development and will open in 2027.
There aren’t many other grocery stores nearby, though those present include Aldi at 4851 N. Trafficway and Price Chopper at 207 NW Englewood Drive.
