As September ends, let’s look back at a busy month for Louisville’s food and dining scene.

Several restaurants announced moves or upcoming openings, with three new spots joining the Norton Commons area, including a new location of The Peach Cobbler Factory, the French bistro Brisé, and a location of The House of Marigold.

Louisville restaurants and wine bars again got nationwide recognition in September, with a Louisville sandwich ranking among the best sandwiches in the country and several local wine spots being honored by Wine Spectator.

September didn’t offer all happy news for Louisville’s food scene, as a few restaurants closed their doors, including Eatz Vietnamese Restaurant and the lone remaining Louisville location for Vinaigrette Salad Kitchen.

Adelita Mexican Restaurant to move into former Chik’n & Mi location

Adelita Mexican Restaurant announced it will move from its current location at 2359 Frankfort Ave., to 1765 Mellwood Ave., the former location of Chik’n & Mi in Louisville’s Butchertown neighborhood.

Chik’n & Mi, an Asian-inspired fried chicken spot, closed in late February, after nearly a decade in business. In the months since, Adelita Mexican Restaurant has “been working nonstop” on transforming its new home, according to a recent Instagram announcement.

“This new location is a BIG step for us,” stated the Instagram post. “More space, a new atmosphere, and a chance for us to continue growing while still bringing you the same homemade Mexican food, recipes, and love that made Adelita what it is today.”

French bistro Brisé opens in Norton Commons

A new modern French-inspired bistro opened in Norton Commons from the team behind a popular bakery.

Debi Hatton, who opened Crust & Crumb bakery two years ago in Norton Commons, expanded next door with the opening of Brisé, 6301 Meeting St., on Sept. 16.

Brisé is “designed as a refined, sophisticated dining destination with an intimate atmosphere suited to date nights, celebrations and special occasions,” a news release stated. Outdoor dining will also be available and the approximately 1,700-square-foot restaurant will start by serving dinner Wednesday through Sunday.

After establishing dinner service, Brisé plans to add afternoon tea on select weekends, with an eye toward brunch service in the future.

The menu includes steak frites, French onion soup and changing seasonal selections incorporating locally sourced products. Additionally, fresh baguettes, desserts and house-made ice creams are prepared on site, with a dedicated bread service accompanying the menu, the release stated, along with a dessert program pairing French-inspired offerings with original creations featuring Kentucky ingredients and flavors, such as sorghum.

Guests can also expect small chef-selected bites and palate cleansers between courses and Brisé offers a chef’s table option.

The Cafe lands on ‘Top Sandwiches in the Country’ list

Did you know one of the best sandwiches in the country is here in Louisville?

According to a national list published Sept. 25 by USA Today that highlights some of the top sandwiches around the US, the Queen Anne ‘Benedectine spread’ sandwich at The Cafe, 731 Brent St., ranks among the best.

Jennie C. Benedict, a famous Louisville caterer and a former editor for The Courier Journal’s “Household” section, created the popular recipe for Benedectine spread, made of cucumber and cream cheese, which is usually spread between thin slices of bread, near the beginning of the 20th century.

The Café, a popular restaurant in Louisville’s Paristown neighborhood that opened in 1996, elevates the traditional finger sandwich with homemade Benedictine spread on artisan walnut wheat bread. It’s garnished with sliced cucumbers, bacon and lettuce.

Cafecito opens in Old Lousiville

A popular mobile coffee shop opened a brick-and-mortar location in Old Louisville in early September.

Cafecito held its grand opening on Sept. 5 at 1212 S. 4th St., Suite 100.

“After dreaming about this moment for so long… it’s finally happening,” stated an Instagram post from mid-August. Cafecito is growing, and I can’t wait to welcome you into our new home in Old Louisville!”

Cafecito, which is open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday, opened just in time to launch a fall menu including a pumpkin horchata mocha, an apple canelita latte, and a pumpkin horchata latte.

Eatz, longtime Vietnamese restaurant, closes

After nearly a decade in business, a Vietnamese restaurant on Frankfort Avenue closed in late September.

Eatz Vietnamese Restaurant, 2244 Frankfort Ave., shuttered its doors Sept. 30. The restaurant previously announced its final day in business via a Facebook post on June 12.

The Vietnamese eatery originally opened on Barrett Avenue in 2018 and later moved to its current spot on Frankfort Avenue, near Volare Italian Ristorante.

“We have been incredibly grateful for the support of our Louisville community,” stated the social media post from June. “What started as a small dream grew into something far greater because of all of you. From busy lunch rushes and packed dining rooms to familiar faces who became friends, every visit, kind word, and meal shared with us helped make Eatz what it is today.”

O’Charley’s closes all locations

The days of free buttered rolls from O’Charley’s are gone. The popular Southern-inspired comfort food restaurant reportedly closed all its remaining corporate locations in the United States, including those in Kentucky, as of Sept. 10, according to several social media posts by former employees.

The abrupt closure, which workers say happened Sept. 9, was followed by the deactivation of the company’s website and many of its social media pages. Louisville’s remaining O’Charley’s restaurant was located at 1901 S. Hurstbourne Pkwy.

O’Charley’s has issues no official statement about the closure, but employees confirmed to The Tennessean, also part of the USA TODAY CO., that nearly all company-owned restaurants would close for good at 8 p.m. Sept. 9.

Parlour Pizza to open at former site of Dundee Tavern

A new location of Parlour Pizza + Pints is expected to open at 2224 Dundee Road, formerly the longtime home of Dundee Tavern.

Neace Ventures, a Louisville-based investment firm, acquired the property at 2224 Dundee Road, a prime spot in the Douglas Loop area of the Highlands neighborhood that most recently operated as a location of Derby City Pizza.

The new Parlour Pizza + Pints will join five other Parlour locations in the Louisville and southern Indiana area, along with one spot in Lexington and another in Richmond, Ky. Parlour Pizza + Pints debuted in 2017 with its first-ever restaurant in Jeffersonville, Ind.

The pizza-focused restaurant, which serves artisanal pizzas and an extensive selection of craft beer, is expected to open in late 2026 following approximately 12 weeks of renovations, Jason Wade, VP Strategic Operations for Neace Ventures, said in a news release-style email to The Courier Journal in early September.

The revamp will include a “significant interior refresh” along with larger and completely renovated restrooms and a new “covered indoor-outdoor dining space along the front of the building.”

The newest Parlour Pizza + Pints will mark the latest phase for 2224 Dundee Road, previously the longtime site of Dundee Tavern, a neighborhood gathering spot that operated under various owners and closed in May 2024 before transitioning to a location of Derby City Pizza, a Louisville-based chain.

Peach Cobbler Factory announces third location

The Peach Cobbler Factory will open its third Louisville-area location in late October in Norton Commons, the company announced on Sept. 22.

The new 1,565-square-foot shop will feature the brand’s full dessert menu, along with dine-in service, takeout, delivery and catering at 10713 Meeting St. in Prospect.

“We’re excited to open in time for the holiday season and give families more dessert options for Thanksgiving and other celebrations,” Steve Conaway, managing partner, said in a news release. “Norton Commons has become a destination for local shopping and dining, and its walkable town-center layout and strong sense of community make it a natural fit for us. We want this to be our most distinctive Kentucky location yet, with a patio and design details that feel at home on Meeting Street.”

The Peach Cobbler Factory, which was founded in Nashville in 2013, pairs Southern hospitality with a wide selection of desserts baked fresh daily, the release stated. The menu ranges from signature peach cobbler and banana puddings to cookies, brownies, cinnamon rolls, cheesecakes, shakes, ice cream creations and savory options. Dessert flights allow guests to mix-and-match four cobbler or pudding flavors.

The Peach Cobbler Factory has grown to more than 135 brick-and-mortar and mobile operations across 26 states. The Norton Commons shop joins Louisville-area locations in Middletown at 805 Blankenbaker Parkway, Suite 102, and Mall St. Matthews at 5000 Shelbyville Road, Suite 1650 in the food court.

Serai opens on Frankfort Avenue

Serai, a restaurant serving southeast Asian cuisine from chef Sebastian Moh, opened Sept. 10 at 2311 Frankfort Ave. in the Clifton neighborhood, taking over the former longtime location of DiFabio’s Casapela.

Moh first announced the opening of Serai, which has a focus on Malaysian and Thai flavors, in late 2025 and previously expected the restaurant to open by March 2026, the Courier Journal previously reported.

After a few delays, Serai is now open, offering elegant dishes such as tuna tartare with lemon grass, bird’s eye chili, and basil, duck confit in black peppercorn and ginger sauce with pan roasted kabocha squash, and seared branzino with shallots sambal.

Week-End Burgers opens second location

A second location of Week-End Burgers held its grand opening on Sept. 6, owner Muamer “Mo” Hasecic previously told The Courier Journal.

The casual burger joint launched in 2018 as a food truck and opened its first brick-and-mortar location at 5600 National Turnpike in 2021.

The second location is a 1,500 square-foot space near Double Dragon in the Second Street shopping center anchored by Kroger at 3165 S. Second St.

Wine Spectator’s 2026 Restaurant Awards honors Louisville spots

A slew of Louisville restaurants and wine bars were the toast of Wine Spectator’s 2026 Restaurant Awards.

In addition to Swizzle Dinner & Drinks being named among the world’s top destinations for wine, Cuvee Wine Table, 3598 Springhurst Blvd., was awarded the 2026 Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for its extensive wine program lead by Master Sommelier Scott Harper. Harper is one of just 299 master sommeliers in the world, according to a news release.

Seven other Louisville establishments were recognized by the Wine Spectator’s 2026 awards, including The Capital Grille, Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse, Morton’s The Steakhouse, Nouvelle Bar + Bottle, Repeal Oak-Fired Steakhouse, Swizzle, and Steakhouse Bourré Bonne, according to Wine Spectator’s website.

Whirling Tiger announces new location

Beginning in late winter or early spring of 2027, The Whirling Tiger, a popular Butchertown bar and entertainment venue, will relocate from 1335 Story Ave. to 1028 Story Ave., according to a news release.

The new location, which is the former home of Producers Veterinary Supply Co., neighbors the old High Horse location. The new space will give the bar significantly more room to expand its hours, elevate its programming and create a beer garden.

“The Whirling Tiger has grown into something that is bigger than we initially imagined, and we’re excited to have a space that allows us to build on that,” owner Mark Evans said in the release. “We’ve had great neighbors and have loved being part of our current location, but it is a more residential setting, and we’ve experienced some challenges with noise. The new location gives us the opportunity to continue growing in a setting that is better suited for what The Whirling Tiger has become.”

Whirling Tiger bar and entertainment venue will remain open at its present location until the move is complete. The coffee shop at The Whirling Tiger will close Sept. 19 to allow Evans and his team to focus their attention and resources on the venue and the upcoming move.

Vinaigrette Salad Kitchen closes in Louisville

As of early September, Louisville residents no longer have Vinaigrette Salad Kitchen as a dining option.

Vinaigrette Salad Kitchen closed its final Louisville location at 3012 Bardstown Road as of Sept. 2, the restaurant announced on social media.

The Lexington-based salad chain previously operated three locations in Louisville and whittled itself down to one Louisville location roughly a year ago after closing locations at 203 N. Hurstbourne Parkway and 4055 Summit Plaza Drive.

Vinaigrette Salad Kitchen first opened its doors in Lexington in 2014, and it expanded to Louisville in 2017, starting with the location on Hurstbourne Parkway.

While Louisvillians will no longer have a nearby option, two Lexington locations will remain open in Hamburg and Palomar, the restaurant indicated in the post.

“To everyone who has visited us, ordered with us, supported us, and made Vinaigrette part of your routine thank you!” the post read. “We are incredibly grateful for every meal, every conversation, and every memory we’ve shared with you.”
