Union Market: Baltimore-based Neopol Smokery, the family-owned fish fixture inside Union Market for 14 years, announced its sudden closure on Wednesday, September 30. The takeout stall with a deli counter was best known for its house-smoked salmon BLT with bacon and honey dijon dressing on sunflower flaxseed bread. Other crowd-pleasing sandwiches came stuffed with whitefish or shrimp salad. Neopol’s two locations in Baltimore, in Belvedere Square and its production kitchen, remain. Neopol’s Union Market closure, however, marks the end of its D.C. presence; the brand formerly operated a short-lived location in Georgetown off Grace Street. 1309 5th Street NE
CityCenter: Acai bowl-and-smoothie slinger Fruitive closed its 11-year-old location at CityCenter DC on Wednesday, September 30, to go all in on its larger Penn Quarter digs instead, bringing its restaurant and production operations under one roof on Pennsylvania Avenue NW. 1094 Palmer Alley NW
Dupont: Local burrito bar Sol Mexican Grill permanently closed its 19th Street NW location in September, an employee confirmed by phone to Eater this week. The fast-casual taqueria’s H Street flagship, as well as its Mt. Vernon Triangle location, remain open. 1200 19th Street NW
Navy Yard: TaKorean, the D.C. taco counter that mashes up Korean and Latin flavors, closed in late September after a 12-year run near Nationals Park. Its Union Market stall remains open. 1212 4th Street SE
Northern Virginia: Chip City Cookies deleted its expansive presence in Virginia in September, closing its three existing stores in Tysons Corner, Clarendon, and Shirlington. Chip City got its start in Astoria, Queens, in 2017 and went on an East Coast expansion tear in recent years thanks to a $10 million investment from Shake Shack founder Danny Meyer. Chip City showcases dozens of flavors like s’mores, Nutella sea salt, peanut butter and jelly, lemon berry, and blueberry cheesecake. The entire state of Virginia no longer appears on the website. Its Connecticut locations also are kaput. Chip City maintains two dozen locations across three states. Multiple locations
Palisades: Cozy Japanese restaurant Kotobuki closed on Saturday, September 26, after a 22-year run. The second-floor upper Northwest standby specialized in sushi, sashimi, and kamameshi dishes. “It is with a heavy heart that we announce Kotobuki will be permanently closing” per a sign spotted on its door last week. 4822 MacArthur Boulevard NW
Tenleytown: Tenley Provisions, the replacement to Tenleytown institution Steak n Eggs that opened in June with three restaurants under one roof, already lost one. Bistro Metzger, a polished comfort foods spot led by Wolfgang Puck alum Colin Graham, appears to have closed in September. El Jefe Woodfired Pizza and fast-casual crepe cafe Sofie’s remain open. 4700 Wisconsin Avenue NW
Woodley Park: Short-lived Tavern 18 shut down this month after just about a year of business, reports Popville, citing unpaid rent-induced eviction as the cause. The American bar for wings, crab fries, and happy hour was formerly home to Macintyre’s Pub and Taste of India before that. 2621 Connecticut Avenue NW
