HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — Thursday’s hometown heroes are working to make sure no one goes hungry, especially kids.
Hunger Action Month just ended but the need didn’t.
One in eight people living in the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank’s service area is facing food insecurity, including one in five kids.
The Salvation Army of Harrisburg gets its food from the food bank and is currently at capacity for its food choice pantry where it serves 3,000 people a month. They are grateful for a food bank program that helps.
“We are boots on the ground getting the food into the homes and it is so helpful to have the Central PA Food Bank be a source for food for partnerships, grocery store retail so we can do grocery store rescue” Tony Lynn Mark, director of development for the Salvation Army of Harrisburg, said.
“One of the things we are most proud of is connecting the Salvation Army to our retail partner programs that is Salvation Army being linked up with some of our local retail stores to be go out and source food that might otherwise go into the dumpster,” Shila Ulrich, CEO of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, said.
