While apple cider doughnuts are a common treat to enjoy at one of Connecticut’s many cider houses, a number of businesses across the state are experimenting with what can be done with cider.
From hot sauces to boozy beverages with a twist, here are five unique cider items you can try in Connecticut thie fall.

At Hogan’s Cider Mill, you can find the iconic “Drunken Donut,” cider spiked with “December Frost,” served over ice and topped with a cider doughnut, whipped cream and sprinkles. Customers can also purchase the “Boozy Bear Shot,” hard cider made with sweet apples, pie spices and caramel — served in a mini bear bottle.

Apple cider doughnuts are a dime-a-dozen during the fall season in Connecticut, but what about apple cider doughnut loaf cake? Hummingbird Cottage Bakery in Madison carries this unique fall treat.
“This buttery cake has the perfect combination of spices and tastes just like the perfect fall doughnut. The taste of fall in one bite,” reads a description on the Hummingbird Cottage Bakery website.

Guests at Long View Ciderhouse can have cider infused with hibiscus and rose petals, peaches and green tea or pumpkin spice. They also offer pear cider, peach wine and homemade brandies.

Though you can find traditional hard cider varieties at the Yankee Cider Barn at Staehly Farms, those who are adventurous will be rewarded with flavors like the Night Shift Mocha Hard Cider, Chai Spiced Hard Cider and Applejack O’Lantern Hard Cider. Yankee also makes a peanut butter-flavored, semi-sweet cider.
