Another grocery store staple has been recalled for possible bacterial contamination.

A New York-based manufacturer pulled frozen pasta from store shelves due to potential contamination from listeria.

The effected product was sold nationwide, including at grocery stores in Idaho.

On Tuesday, Sept. 15, Gias Foods of New York City recalled select lots of frozen pasta because they have the “potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.”

The bacteria can cause “serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” company officials said in a news release.

The recall affects 22-ounce containers of the following product:

The recalled pasta is packaged in yellow plastic bags stamped with universal product code No. 194346442706 as well as expiration dates of Sept. 19, 2027, or Sept. 20, 2027, on the back.

“No illnesses have been reported to date,” Gia Foods said.

The recalled frozen pasta was distributed nationwide at Walmart stores.

What are symptoms of listeria infection?

Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that can be especially dangerous for older adults, people with weakened immune systems, pregnant individuals and newborns.

According to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, listeria can cause flu-like symptoms, including fever, body aches and fatigue.

Listeria monocytogenes infection can also “cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women,” Gia Foods said.

What should I do if I bought recalled pasta?

If you bought the recalled Gia Foods pasta, you can “return it to the place of purchase for a full refund,” the company said.

In addition, a total of 53 consumer products sold in Idaho were subject to federal recalls in August, Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador said in a Sept. 3 news release.

Recalls also impacted motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles and bicycle parts sold in Idaho, the Statesman previously reported.
