MADISON, Neb. (KOLN) – A man was arrested after allegedly strangling a stranger inside a Madison business Sunday evening, according to court documents.

A Nebraska State Patrol trooper responded to La Hacienda Grocery Store around 5:40 p.m. for a reported disturbance. A 67-year-old man told authorities that an unknown man had thrown him to the ground and held him in a chokehold for about 18 seconds before an employee intervened.

The victim reported experiencing neck pain following the assault, according to the trooper’s report.

The trooper and a Madison County Sheriff’s deputy obtained surveillance footage and a description of the suspect. After canvassing the area and speaking with residents, authorities tracked the suspect down at a Madison home and took Kristopher Eduardo Isaula Arias, 27, into custody.

During an interview, Isaula Arias reportedly told troopers he may have experienced a blackout during the incident and could not recall the assault. The trooper expressed concerns about Isaula Arias’ potential danger to the public due to the violent nature of his episodes, as detailed in court filings.

Isaula Arias was charged with assault by strangulation or suffocation and had his bail set at 10% of $500,000. He will be arraigned on Nov. 19 at 12:30 p.m. in Madison County Court.
