TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Gias Foods is recalling a frozen pasta sold at Walmart stores in Florida, and across the country, after testing done by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services found it may be contaminated with a dangerous bacteria.

Gias Foods is pulling all lot codes of its Bettergoods Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine from shelves after routine sampling by state agriculture officials revealed the product may contain Listeria monocytogenes, according to a company announcement.

No illnesses have been reported.

Who is at risk

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may experience high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

For pregnant women, a listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.

What to look for

The recalled product is a frozen 22-ounce package of bettergoods Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine in yellow plastic packaging. All lot codes are included in the recall.

What triggered the recall

The Washington State Department of Agriculture and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services both identified the potential contamination through routine sampling programs. The FDA and Gias Foods are continuing their investigation into the cause.

The company has stopped distributing the product.
