We ate, sipped and toasted our way through all the wonderful offerings made from Girl Scout cookies during the recent Cookies and Cocktails event at Camp Trivera, the Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma headquarters in Oklahoma City.
As always, the event highlighted the creativity of our local restaurants, who incorporated the flavors in unique ways. The event raised $65,000 for Girl Scouts’ programming and higher awards.
The evening was a celebration of all the Girl Scouts have accomplished in its region, especially since it moved to Camp Trivera, which includes a gym, camping and swimming areas, volunteer training and room for other Girl Scouts experiences.

Judges for Cookies and Cocktails were Ryan Rudebock, Verbode Realtor and co-founder of Oklahoma Food Tours; local baker and culinary instructor Carlye Carter, owner of Cakes by Carlye; and nonprofit professional Mady Hendry.
Co-chairs were Allison Hudson and Saasha Reese.
Participating restaurants were American Gothic Pizza, Hacienda Tacos, Hopscotch Kitchen & Bar, Jimmy B’s Culinary + Krafted, Kam’s Kookery, Lemon Chick, Lucy Snax. Paseo Grill, Plus254 – A Taste of Africa, Share the TEA, Sunrise Café, Tiny Bubbles Wine Bar, Toast & Coffee, Top Shelf Bartending and Woodworks Distilling Company.
Lemon-flavored Girl Scout cookies – Lemonades and Lemon-Ups – were generally popular ones to incorporate in the yummy food and drinks, as were Thin Mints, Caramel deLites (Samoas) and peanut-butter-flavored Do-Si-Dos.
Hacienda Tacos was the big winner for the evening with the Judge’s Choice Award for Best Savory Bite and the People’s Choice Award. Other winners were Paseo Grill for Best Sweet Bite and Lemon Chick for Best Mocktail.
A long list of sponsors helped make the event possible, led by Samoa sponsors American Solera, Devon, Perri Dunn, Peters & Chandler, PC; and Expand.

Working the runway
Goodwill Industries of Central Oklahoma raised more than $176,000 during its Glam for Good Work the Runway event at the Criterion earlier this month.
The annual event always includes a runway show featuring Goodwill items and high-end boutique shopping from goods curated throughout the year from area stores. This year’s event added a new feature – a student design competition celebrating creativity, sustainability and purpose. In it, students from the University of Central Oklahoma created signature looks from their own Goodwill finds.
Competition judges were Sydnie Peebles, Stacy Johnson, Kourtney Hartenstein and Jakian Parks. Bella Orcutt won the Judge’s Choice Award; Richard Camacho won the People’s Choice Award, which was supported by OG&E. Other student designers were Kayla Gunn, Vy Truong, Haelee Manning, Hannah Hathaway, Jadyn Tran and Alyana George.

Wine and conversation
Stock & Bond Steakhouse, the fine dining option at The National in downtown Oklahoma City, recently hosted a wine dinner to give patrons the chance to sample its food and special wine selections from the Dearden Family winemakers behind the Little Giant and Sleeping Giant wines. As an added bonus, the evening included hearing about them directly from Chris Dearden and his son, who grow the grapes in the Napa Valley and make the wines.
I really enjoyed the stories behind the wines and the selection of bites from Stock & Bond. To keep an eye out for the next one, go to stockandbondokc.com
