Honorable Mentions

Broad Street Diner

Where: Hamilton
Why it’s a Best of NJ Pick: Broad Street Diner is one of few remaining diners to stay open “late” (sometimes til midnight). Their menu is a mix of international dishes, traditional favorites, and contemporary twists. The stars of their breakfast all day menu are the Belgium waffles and traditional Hotcakes. We recommend the waffle with two eggs and turkey bacon for a hearty meal. For something different, try a stuffed seafood option (shrimp, flounder, or tilapia) with crabmeat stuffing. For dessert, it’s gotta be The Phillip Arthur sundae!

Clinton Station Diner

Where: Clinton
Why it’s a Best of NJ Pick: The once-abundant-but-now-rare 24/7 diner lives on at Clinton Station. Between their nationwide shipping (via Goldbelly) and never-ending hours, Clinton Station is literally always ready to serve. (They even have a drive-thru!) Besides classic diner options, Clinton Station is also known for their massive Burger Challenges. A variety of behemoth burgers are available to challenge solo or with up to 9 friends. As for the regular menu, we recommend the Primavera Omelette or Athenian Moussaka.

Dino’s Seaville Diner

Where: Seaville
Why it’s a Best of NJ Pick: Dino’s is rapidly approaching their 50 year anniversary, first opening in 1977. This classic diner is open seven days a week from 7:30am to 8pm. One thing in particular that sets this diner apart from the rest is their robust seafood menu. Dino’s offers a huge variety of fried and broiled shrimp, flounder, scallops, salmon, crab cakes, and more. Not to mention sauteed options like Shrimp Scampi, Clams & Spaghetti, Shrimp Fra Diablo, and nearly two dozen seafood combos. We also recommend the Buffalo Chicken Cheese Steak!

New Monmouth Diner

Where: Middletown
Why it’s a Best of NJ Pick: Locals frequent New Monmouth Diner for restaurant-quality American cuisine at diner prices. That means menu favorites like the Chicken Milanese Panini, Memphis Burger (with BBQ pulled pork), and Blue Plate Classics entrees. But our favorite dinner just might be the Eggplant Genovese Tower, layered with ham, roasted peppers, spinach, and melted mozzarella. (Served over linguine in a light marinara.) Of course, they still have all those classic dinner apps, from mac and cheese bites to wings and mozzarella sticks.

Rainbow Diner

Where: Brick Township
Details: Rainbow Diner devotes their menu to both sweet and savory options. For example, their Wake Up Wrap mixes scrambled eggs with ham, American cheese, onions, and jalapenos in a tortilla. Then there’s the French Toast Parisienne, deep-fried French toast sticks with honey and powdered sugar. Patrons also love their milkshakes and homemade bread pudding.

Tops Diner

Where: East Newark
Why it’s a Best of NJ Pick: Tops has been a staple of Harrison/East Newark since 1942. The local landmark estimates they serve over 15,000 patrons per week.
