A Southern breakfast and brunch restaurant with a familiar name and owners is coming soon to a new plaza in Port St. Lucie.
Kinfolks Biscuit Co. on Port St. Lucie Boulevard will serve authentic Southern breakfast and brunch dishes, including the owner’s signature chicken and waffles, fresh biscuits, pork belly dishes, fried catfish, shrimp or oxtail with grits, and Bananas Foster French toast. Cuban coffee will also be available and dinner will be served on the weekends.
The restaurant will have wooden plank-style floors, cream walls, white tables, rattan and white lampshades, wooden slat accents and touches of sage green or gold. There will also be indoor, outdoor and booth seating.
“Food from the soul”
Kinfolks Biscuit Co. is owned by the Roundtree family, who started opening restaurants on the Treasure Coast in 2018. Today, Willie Roundtree Jr. mainly runs three concepts with the help of his family and team.
“We wanted to bring a lot of different items that are not around right now, things from Charlotte or Atlanta, deep Southern stuff,” Roundtree told TCPalm. “There’s gonna be things that you can’t go around the corner and get, not your traditional breakfast.”
Roundtree began his culinary journey in 2018 with Soul Bowl Eatery food truck, traveling between Orlando and the Treasure Coast before closing it to focus on opening his first brick-and-mortar. He opened Kinfolk Southern Eats and Treats later that year in Lakewood Park and closed it in 2022.
Authentic Southern breakfast, brunch
“I was born and raised in Fort Pierce, so it was deeper than that for me to make sure we bring it home first and give our community something,” Roundtree said in 2020. “I feel there’s a shortage of soul food, so bringing chitlins and oxtail and things of that nature was one of our top priorities.”
Roundtree later opened Kinfolks Southern Kitchen in Stuart in 2022 and closed it in 2024. He also opened Chicken & Waffles at Kinfolk in 2021 in Lakewood Park and KF Bakery at the same location in 2025. His most recent concept, Kinfolks Fried Chicken, opened on Gatlin Boulevard in 2025.
The name “Kinfolk” became the family’s unofficial trademark when Roundtree brainstormed with one of his high school advisers. He chose it because the word’s definition refers to his relatives. He also said it’s the perfect name to describe what his customers become to him: family.
“When they come in, they’re part of our family, and I mean that,” Roundtree said.
