October campaign marks 4th collaboration between the sub shop and Best Buddies International
Jersey Mike’s Subs is partnering for a fourth year in a row with Best Buddies International. The collaborators seek to raise funds and awareness for the nonprofit’s mission of inclusion.
Between Oct. 1 and 31, customers at the Tinton Falls-based sub franchise’s 3,300 locations nationwide can make a donation to Best Buddies by rounding up their purchase to the nearest dollar. The Jersey Mike’s app or website can also accept contributions, the chain said.
According to the company, it will send 100% of the tax deductible donations to Best Buddies.
Founded in 1989 by Anthony Kennedy Shriver, Best Buddies aims to create opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development and inclusive living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
With over 4,000 chapters worldwide, Best Buddies programs serve more than 1.5 million people. The organization helps them secure rewarding jobs, live independently and make lifelong friendships.
‘Buddy’ system
Jersey Mike’s noted the initiative takes place during National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
The company also highlighted continuing efforts to work with Best Buddies on job opportunities within its restaurants for individuals with IDD. That’s included developing a “real infrastructure, dedicated training, a candidate-matching process and hiring practices,” Jersey Mike’s said.
Shriver – the brother of journalist Maria Shriver and nephew of President John F. Kennedy – commented, “Jersey Mike’s has been an incredible partner and true champion of the Best Buddies mission.”
“Together, we’ve opened doors to meaningful employment and given countless individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities the chance to thrive and make friends in the workplace. We’re incredibly grateful for this partnership and excited about what we’ll continue to accomplish together,” he said.
A total amount for last year’s campaign was not immediately available. In 2024, Jersey Mike’s raised $4.3 million for Best Buddies.
Morrison
Jersey Mike’s CEO Charlie Morrison shared, “National Disability Employment Awareness Month is a time to recognize the value that people of all abilities bring to the workplace and our communities.”
“Giving back is a core value at Jersey Mike’s and we’re proud to continue our partnership with Best Buddies for another year and support its work to expand opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities,” he said.
