After a multi-year delay, Kyma, an upscale Greek restaurant announced it’s coming to Greenwich in 2027, according to the eatery’s website.
The restaurant at 8-10 Lewis St. and part of 6 Liberty Way will occupy the site of the former New York Sports Club and the former spot of Sophia’s Costume Rentals, Greenwich Time previously reported.
While the Greenwich Planning and Zoning Commission first approved Kyma’s proposed eatery, market and bakery in 2022, a legal dispute stalled the project, according to Tracy Kulikowski, deputy director of Planning and Zoning and assistant town planner.
Property owner MH Cohen Realty LLC and restaurant owner CT River LLC, doing business as Kyma Greenwich, had filed individual suits challenging the commission’s decision over parking issues and the number of seats allowed in the restaurant. A third party, 55 Lewis St. Associates LLC, also challenged the zoning board’s decision.
But last year, a path was cleared after all parties negotiated an agreement outside of court, according to Kulikowski. And in late September this year, the Greenwich Planning and Zoning Department signed off on the revised plans for the restaurant, she said.
The new approval allows up to 225 seats for dinner Thursday through Sunday and 200 seats for dinner on Mondays and Tuesdays. For lunch, maximum seats allowed are 100 on Mondays through Fridays and 150 seats on Saturdays and Sundays.
Additionally, special events are limited to 75 attendees and shall not be held before 6 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays during the annual Greenwich Sidewalk Sales days, which are typically scheduled Thursday through Sunday in or around the second week of July, according to Kulikowski.
While the 2022 approval for a 12-seat bakery and 12-seat food market still stands, no plans have been submitted to the town yet, according to Kulikowski.
Kyma currently has two restaurants in New York City, West Palm Beach, according to its website. There is no menu posted on its website for the Greenwich restaurant and the restaurant owners could not be reached for comment.
The website described the dining experience at Kyma as a “contemporary Greek dining destination” with a menu and atmosphere that is “grounded in the rich traditions of Greek cuisine while embracing a lively, social energy.”
