Consumers in Alabama, Florida and Georgia are being urged to check their pantries for two canned chicken sausage products illegally imported from Jamaica.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, the products were distributed to stores in those three states, along with Maryland and Texas. The agency issued a public health alert Oct. 6.

The alert covers 140-gram cans of Grace Ready to Eat Chicken Vienna Sausages and Grace Ready to Eat Chicken Vienna Sausages Hot & Spicy, regardless of the product date.

The cans bear establishment number “EST. NO G-01” inside Jamaica’s inspection mark.

Jamaica is not eligible to export meat or poultry products to the United States, according to FSIS. The agency is investigating how the products entered the country.

The issue was discovered during routine surveillance of imported products. No illnesses or injuries linked to the products have been confirmed.

Consumers should not eat the sausages. They should throw them away or return them to the store where they were purchased. Anyone concerned about an illness or injury should contact a health care provider.
