GRAND FORKS — The United States Department of Health and Human Services has awarded more than $1.2 million to a number of North Dakota entities.

The announcement came in a news release from the office of U.S. Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D. The purpose of the grants, according to the release, is to “support opioid response, youth outreach, economic advancement, aging issues and veterinary research.”

All told, the grants total $1,228,959. Total amounts rewarded and recipients include:

$468,879 to the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa for its EAGLE Program, which stands for Economic Advancement Grants for Local Empowerment.$300,000 to Quality Health Assistance of North Dakota for the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program.$215,343 to the University of North Dakota through the National Resource Center on Native American Aging.$200,000 to Mountain Plains Youth Service Inc. for street outreach.$44,719 to North Dakota State University for veterinary food and drug research.
