The Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA) released its list of the top five best breaded pork tenderloins in the state, and two winners belong to the Corridor.
North Liberty’s Tin Roost and Williamsburg’s Landmark Grill and Grind were both awarded top five spots.
Previous winners of the title have reported increased customer traffic and sales of the sandwich as Iowans from across the state try to get a bite.
“Every restaurant on this list has earned its place, but judging a great tenderloin comes down to more than size,” said Greg Carlson, a contest judge and retired pork producer, in an IPPA news release. “We look for pork that’s tender and flavorful, with breading that complements it. As a former producer, it’s rewarding to see restaurants put so much care into a sandwich Iowans love.”
Participants in the contest must serve the sandwich on a regular basis, have regular hours, and be open year-round. Other establishments such as food trucks or catering services are not allowed to participate. Judges evaluate eligible restaurants and a final penal will determine a winner and runner-up. Last year, Grinnell’s Hometown Heroes won the first place title.
The contest continues until the IPPA crowns a champion later this month, nicknamed “Porktober” for its designation as National Pork Month.
