In one of the biggest culinary announcements in Dallas-Fort Worth in a year, the Michelin Guide Texas awarded three North Texas restaurants 1 Michelin star on Oct. 8, 2026.

That’s the highest number of 1-star accolades the group of anonymous critics has handed out to North Texas restaurants, and it includes Fort Worth’s first Michelin star.

Play video2026 Michelin Guide: Dallas-Fort Worth barbecue restaurant earns 1 star

The 2026 Michelin Guide in Texas came with a surprise. A barbecue restaurant earned a star for the first time in Dallas-Fort Worth history. Tatsu in Deep Ellum and Mamani Uptown retained their Michelin stars this year, and now, Goldee’s Barbecue in Fort Worth has joined the party with one star.

Zacharia Washington, The Dallas Morning News

Michelin has awarded stars for 100 years, yet it released its first Guide of best bets in Texas’ five major cities two years ago, in 2024.

Stay tuned: The Dallas Morning News will analyze whether Texas’ 2026 Michelin Guide showcased North Texas’ standout restaurants. Find all coverage at dallasnews.com/michelin.

Even if Michelin doesn’t spotlight every foodie’s favorite spot, Michelin’s presence in Texas legitimizes Dallas-Fort Worth’s culinary scene, said Mark Thompson, senior vice president of tourism and operations of Visit Dallas, the city’s not-for-profit tourism group.

This fall marks the end of Michelin’s three-year contract with five visitors bureaus and Travel Texas, the six groups that cumulatively paid Michelin just under $3 million to expand into the Lone Star State.

I asked Thompson, is paying for Michelin worth it? He thinks about that often. “Because we are funded by hotel taxes,” he said of Visit Dallas, “we constantly have to ask and answer, ‘Is this a good use of funds?’”

The answer is an easy yes, Thompson said. Michelin’s maps now include Dallas, which means tourists find hotels and restaurants they may never have been looking for before. Michelin helps “cut through the clutter” among D-FW’s 16,000 restaurants, Thompson said.

“Michelin is top of the list for me. I can’t think of a better way to spend our money.”

1-star Michelin restaurants in Dallas

Two Dallas restaurants retained their 1-star status, and no new restaurants were added. Not even Sushi Kozy, the Japanese restaurant in downtown Dallas many in-the-know foodies thought could win.

2- and 3-star Michelin restaurants across Dallas-Fort Worth

For the third year, no restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth were honored with 2 or 3 Michelin stars. This was expected; Michelin’s highest two tiers go to top-of-their-game restaurants. No restaurants across Texas received 2 or 3 Michelin stars for the third year in a row.

For context, 16 restaurants in the United States have earned 3-star status. Those include some of the nation’s most well-known names, like Eleven Madison Park in New York, Smyth in Chicago, Atelier Crenn in San Francisco and The French Laundry near Napa Valley.

Michelin’s Bib Gourmand recipients across North Texas

Michelin honored six Dallas-Fort Worth restaurants with Bib Gourmand awards.

The company defines a Bib Gourmand as “friendly establishments that serve good food at moderate prices.” In Texas, specifically, Michelin says eligible restaurants need to be able to serve two courses, plus wine or dessert, for about $50 before tax or tip.

Fun fact: Bib Gourmands are named after Bibendum, the Michelin Man mascot.

Dallas-Fort Worth’s Bib Gourmand Michelin winners are listed in alphabetical order. Our one first-time winner is marked with an asterisk.

Cattleack Barbeque: a third-consecutive Bib winner at 13628 Gamma Road, Farmers Branch.
