Jashan in Plano is one of the latest restaurants to earn Michelin Recommended status, after being open just shy of a year. It was also the only restaurant in Plano on Michelin’s 2026 list.

The honor left owner Prasanna Singaraju overwhelmed with joy, he told The Dallas Morning News.

“I’m feeling very grateful,” he said. “I used to dream of this.”

Michelin released its 2026 guide for Texas on Oct. 8. Two Dallas restaurants, Tatsu and Mamani, retained their 1-star status. Goldee’s Barbecue in Fort Worth is the new North Texas restaurant to reach 1-star status this year. There are 24 North Texas restaurants that made Michelin’s Recommended list this year, five of which are newcomers, including Jashan.

Recommended restaurants are eateries worthy of attention, but they don’t meet Michelin’s rigorous standards for 1-, 2- or 3-star status, and they weren’t chosen for the Bib Gourmand, which notes “simple yet skillful cooking,” and often at an affordable price.

Jashan receiving the honor came as a surprise, Singaraju said, but it was certainly a pleasant one. “You work towards something,” he said. “You want to do the absolute best you can with guest experience, the food, the quality, the ingredients and everything else.”

After 21 years working in tech, Singaraju, who’s also a recent culinary school graduate, decided to chase his dreams and open Jashan in November 2025.

At Jashan, diners can order dinner a la carte or opt for a multicourse modern tasting menu for $175. Curated by Singaraju and executive chef Ramesh Thangaraj, the restaurant’s menu includes classic Indian dishes like butter chicken and chicken biryani as well as more upscale options. For diners who choose the tasting experience, the food is presented omakase-style, which is a Japanese form of dining where the diner allows the chef to select each course.

Other North Texas newcomers on the Michelin Recommended list include Fond, Olōyō, Mābo and Lucia, which was previously on the Bib Gourmand list.

“Congratulations to everyone else that got their recognition,” Singaraju said. “I’m very proud of the way that Texas and D-FW are embracing new food. I’m really excited for what’s to come for D-FW in general as far as the culinary scene. Super thrilled for that.”

Michelin has awarded stars for 100 years, and it released its first Guide of best bets in Texas in 2024. Michelin’s three-year contract with Travel Texas and five cities’ visitors bureaus ended with the Oct. 8 announcement, so the status of Michelin Guide returning to Texas in 2027 is unknown.

Jashan is at 7401 Lone Star Drive, Suite B 120, Plano. jashan.us.
