AUSTIN, Texas — Two Austin restaurants have earned their first MICHELIN Stars in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide Texas selection.

Fabrik, a plant-based restaurant in Tarrytown, and Kappo Kappo, a French-Japanese counter restaurant inside the Austin Proper Hotel, were among three restaurants statewide to receive a new One MICHELIN Star. The third was Goldee’s Bar-B-Q in Fort Worth.

Fabrik is run by chef Je Wallerstein and her husband, Silas. Its menu is entirely plant-based, using produce from a network of local Texas farms.

MICHELIN inspectors praised the restaurant’s imaginative cooking, which puts vegetables like mushrooms, beets and corn at the center of the plate.

Kappo Kappo was opened by twin brothers Haru and Gohei, who were born in Paris to Japanese parents and worked around the world before reuniting in Austin.

Inspectors highlighted the lively atmosphere at its L-shaped counter, where the brothers share stories with guests, and dishes that blend French and Japanese cooking.
