A Maryland restaurant has earned national recognition from Food & Wine, landing on the publication’s list of “7 Standout New Caribbean Restaurants in the U.S.”

Rumhouse, located in Annapolis’ Eastport neighborhood, was included in the unranked editorial list published October 8. The restaurant officially opened on February 19, 2025.

Food & Wine highlighted Rumhouse’s Trinidadian-influenced menu from chef Natasha de Bourg, including doubles, a Trinidadian street food featuring curried chickpeas and fried bara, along with oxtail-stuffed pasta and jerk lamb glazed with a house-made syrup.

De Bourg, a native of Trinidad, has worked in Michelin-starred restaurants and traveled to more than 50 countries. According to Rumhouse, those experiences, along with learning to cook from her grandmother, helped shape her approach to Caribbean flavors.

Rumhouse was founded by doctors Coryse Brathwaite Zebovitz and Edward Zebovitz. The restaurant operates on the first floor of a converted neighborhood home and was created to reflect the founders’ Caribbean heritage and focus on hospitality.

The restaurant’s name pays tribute to rum and its significance throughout the Caribbean. Rumhouse features bottles from Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and other parts of the region. Food & Wine also noted the restaurant’s unusual approach to tipping. Rumhouse does not accept tips, instead building service wages directly into its menu prices.
