PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — A beloved Providence bar that has brought people together for more than 30 years could soon close its doors as rising costs threaten its future.
Now, rising costs and mounting financial pressure have put Nick-A-Nee’s future at risk.

Owner Stephanie Finizia says a sharp increase in property taxes drove her rent up to $1,800 a month over the past year, making it increasingly difficult to keep the business afloat.
“The struggle is just getting to be too much,” Finizia said, explaining that she has fallen behind on rent and received a court summons last week.

Finizia tried to buy the building to secure the bar’s future, but says the landlord is no longer interested in selling. The potential closure would also be a significant loss for longtime patrons who consider the bar a second home.
“I’d feel terrible. I wouldn’t know what to do with myself,” said patron Carrie Messier. “This is my go-to right here.”

In an effort to keep the bar open, supporters have rallied around a GoFundMe campaign that has already raised more than $50,000, surpassing its initial goal.
With more than $30,000 raised, supporters are hoping the community’s show of support will help keep Nick-A-Nee’s doors open.
With the lease set to expire in February, Finizia’s fight to save the Providence staple is far from over.
