From the farm, to the food bank, to the pantry, to your table; the Food Bank of Wyoming’s Fresh Express program is partnering with Wyoming farmers to fight hunger with cowboy grown produce.
“We’re not just trying to feed them. We want to give them things that have sustainability and nourishment,” said Food Bank of Wyoming Community Relations Coordinator Jessica Osborn.
Over the past week volunteers have helped repack a recent shipment of sweetcorn received from 1890 Farms in Riverton for the Food Bank’s fresh express program.
“Being able to have access to that farm fresh food is really, really important in terms of keeping us healthy and supporting Wyoming agriculture,” said 1890 Farms owner, Lindsey Anderson.
Though sometimes produce has been donated, the Food Bank often purchases the produce outright to support local farms. The sweetcorn from 1890 Farms was purchased using 10% of the donations received by the Food Bank during the 2026 WyoGives fundraiser.
At 1890 Farms, owner Lindsay Anderson said she has similar partnerships with schools and other hunger relief organizations around the state.
“We’re hoping to kind of bridge the gap and provide folks some education and awareness around farming and growing, and helping strengthen the food supply throughout Wyoming and, inspiring some youth throughout the schools,” said Anderson.
Anderson’s 1890 farms is one of many local producers helping the Food Bank make a difference by providing pantries around the state with nourishment they may otherwise struggle to supply.
“It is incredibly expensive for our hunger relief partners to purchase produce,” said Osborn. “And so, through our Fresh Express program, we are able to provide that to them for free, usually.”
By volunteering, the community can help the Food Bank distribute produce at peak freshness to local pantries. Fresh produce repack volunteer events can come unexpectedly, so the Food Bank recommends watching their social media pages for announcements.
Donations to the Food Bank during Hunger Action Month this September will be matched up to $40,000 by Powder River Energy Cooperation, the Powder River Energy Foundation, and CoBank.
