RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – South Dakotans appear to be on the lookout for more ways to save at the grocery store, with Grocery Outlet Bargain Market topping a new survey of retail chains residents would most like to see come to the state.

The survey of 3,003 people, conducted by LensPricer.com, a price comparison website, asked consumers which budget-friendly retailers they would like to see expand into their states.

The top three choices among South Dakotans were:

Grocery Outlet Bargain Market WinCo Foods Meijer

Grocery Outlet is known for offering discounted name-brand groceries, often through surplus inventory, discontinued products and packaging changes. Its constantly changing selection has made it popular with shoppers looking for deals.

WinCo, which ranked second, is known for bulk foods and warehouse-style grocery stores. Meijer, the third choice, combines a grocery store with a broader selection of department-store items.

The findings suggest South Dakotans are eager to stretch their dollars — particularly when it comes to everyday purchases like groceries.
