Coco’s Caribbean Haus will celebrate its grand opening Saturday, Oct. 17, in The Colony with a menu inspired by the culinary traditions of Jamaica, Haiti and the Latin Caribbean, according to a news release.
The restaurant is at 4940 State Highway 121, Suite 135, in a shopping area of The Colony that is also home to restaurants such as Tabla Indian and Pepper Thai.
It is the second culinary venture for Marsha Telfer, who was born in Haiti and moved from New York to Texas six years ago, as she explained on Instagram.
Her first restaurant was Reggae Jerk Hut in McKinney, which she opened with her husband, Adrian Telfer, in June 2023. They sold it early this year, as she revealed on social media. In addition to running a restaurant, Marsha Telfer works on real estate projects.
The restaurant’s menu combines dishes from Haiti, where Marsha Telfer’s family is from, and Jamaica, where her husband is from. Adrian Telfer is in charge of the Jamaican dishes, and chef Marie Exalus prepares the Haitian dishes.
Though the official menu hasn’t been released yet, Coco’s will sell dishes such as jerk chicken, chicken seasoned with a blend of spices characteristic of Jamaica; Rasta Pasta, a popular Jamaican pasta dish with a creamy sauce and bell peppers representing the Rastafarian flag; and tasso, a Haitian dish of meat marinated in citrus and herbs with a spicy kick.
The restaurant has been open since mid-September, but it will officially open this Saturday, Oct. 17.
