Oklahoma City –

Two internationally recognized chefs are coming together in Oklahoma City this weekend for a special dining experience celebrating Jamaican cuisine.

James Beard Award-winning chef and restaurant entrepreneur Andrew Black is teaming up with Jamaican chef Andre Fowles for two culinary events at Grey Sweater and Dougla.

“Food and Wine just listed us as seven of the most influential Caribbean restaurants in the United States,” said Black.

Since relocating to Oklahoma City nearly 20 years ago, Black has helped transform the city’s culinary scene.

“I am proud of the people, the ambassadors, that take the journey with me,” Black said.

Two Jamaican chefs bring their flavors together

Black is welcoming his longtime friend Fowles, who is the personal chef for Bruce Springsteen and a three-time winner of Food Network’s “Chopped.”

“My good friend Chef Andre is actually in Oklahoma City for us to collab,” Black said.

Fowles said the collaboration is about more than preparing a meal. It’s an opportunity to celebrate culture and bring people together through food.

“It’s really about a celebration, you know, of how food connects with people, and it starts with our flavors of being Jamaican, but it’s also a global perspective as well,” Fowles said.

“It’s two Jamaicans meeting up, so you know what that’s going to bring, the flavor the taste,” Black said.

Eight-course dinner at Grey Sweater, collaboration at Dougla

The two-day experience begins Saturday, Oct. 17, at Grey Sweater and continues Sunday, Oct. 18, at Dougla.

Saturday’s event will feature an eight-course dining experience highlighting a variety of flavors and ingredients.

“Grey Sweater is eight courses, and it ranges from vegetarians to meat dishes, to seafood courses, dessert courses,” Fowles said.

Sunday’s event at Dougla will feature dishes inspired by Fowles’ cookbook and items from the restaurant’s menu.

“So, imagine the Caribbean food at a very high level, that’s going to happen, and then we move to Dougla, where we’re going to do a very collab from his book and menu items that we serve here at Dougla,” Black said.

Fowles released his cookbook, “My Jamaican Table,” in March. Everyone attending this weekend’s events will receive a personally signed copy.

“It’s going to be something that people are just going to leave, you know, they are going to be speechless about,” Fowles said.

Black hopes this weekend marks the beginning of more collaborations between the two chefs.

“This is just the beginning of something that’s going to be great over the years and people in Oklahoma are going to be the first to witness this collab,” Black said.
