A restaurant known for its “fresh, modern touch to traditional Italian dining” has closed.

Casanova, at 278 Park St. in New Haven, announced its closing in a Facebook post.

“We poured our hearts, time, and energy into making this space a special one for New Haven, but due to unexpected and unavoidable challenges behind the scenes, we can no longer continue operations,” according to the post.

“This decision was incredibly difficult, but we want to focus on what matters most: expressing our deepest gratitude. To our amazing team who worked tirelessly every single day—thank you. This space was nothing without your hard work and passion. And to our guests who shared meals, celebrations, and everyday moments with us—thank you for letting us be a part of your lives.”

The restaurant had opened to some fanfare in 2025, as Chef Joseph Iannaccone had at that time already worked at three Michelin-starred restaurants in his young career and as owner and executive chef of a Connecticut restaurant, had hoping they’ll come here at some point to get a taste.

“It would be nice if they came to Connecticut. I’m going to work on that,” he said. “It would be amazing. They usually go to bigger cities where there’s a lot around.”

Iannaccone was celebrating the one-year anniversary of Casanova when he spoke to the Courant about the a creatively inspired modern Italian restaurant located in New Haven. He had  started as a youngster breading chicken cutlets and baking cookies with his grandmother, then worked with his dad, a renowned restaurateur in Connecticut.

Casanova customers were sad to hear the news, saying, “So disappointed to hear, but wishing you all the best! This was an amazing place and fantastic food!”

Another customer said, “This is sad news. Thank you for many wonderful dinners in an amazing atmosphere. Good luck with what comes next.”

A former CT college site sits decrepit and boarded up. What the state planned but has not delivered.

Yet another customer said, “Very sad to hear. We loved dining here.”
